Here is a summary of the new product announcements from Today at AEA:
MK10 Mini Keyboard The pocket-size MK10 Mini Keyboard, measuring 4.5 inches x 2.25 inches x 0.375 inches, is a customized Bluetooth device offered by Avidyne specifically for the IFD540 and IFD440. The MK10 lets pilots wirelessly enter flight plans and waypoints, execute "Direct TO" operations, change Pages and Tabs, and zoom the Map range in and out, among other things. The MK10 Mini Keyboard will be enabled for the first time via a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) after the certification of the upcoming Release 10.1 software upgrade for the IFD540 and IFD440 is completed. Avidyne will continue to work with selected device and application developers to expand upon the significant potential of wireless connectivity capabilities in the cockpit made possible with WiFi and Bluetooth technologies, and announcements of additional wireless functionality will be forthcoming with future software releases. AXP322 Remote Mount Transponder The AXP322 is a remote-mounted Class 1 (250Watt), Mode S, Level 2 1090MHz Datalink Transponder with Extended Squitter (ES) that meets all the requirements for Mode S elementary surveillance for both IFR and VFR flight. The fully TSO’d AXP322 encodes and transmits the required ADS-B Out information, including your aircraft’s GPS-derived position, along with ground track, ground speed and altitude, in a series of extra pulses (called Extended Squitter) on the Mode S data stream.
Measuring only 2.44”x 1.70” x 5.55” and weighing only 1.0 lbs, its compact design allows the AXP322 to be remotely mounted virtually anywhere in the aircraft, with display and mode selection controlled by any IFD540 or IFD440 using Release 10.1 software. MLX200 & MLX210 ADS-B Transceiver The MLX200 provides 978MHz ADS-B IN and ADS-B OUT which can
be displayed on Avidyne’s IFD540 and IFD440 GPS/NAV/COMs, and also on an
Avidyne EX500, EX600 or EX5000 Multi-Function display (MFD). The IFD540 and
IFD440 provide a compliant GPS source needed for ADS-B. Avidyne previously announced their MLB100 ADSB-IN Receiver that is designed for IFD540 or IFD440 customers who want ADS-B IN, and they are equipping with an Avidyne AXP340 Mode S Transponder with 1090MHz ADS-B OUT. The MLB100 provides a great FIS-B weather and traffic solution for aircraft flying above 18,000 feet in the CONUS. Release 10.1 software is required in the IFD540 and IFD440 in order for them to display ADS-B information. |

1) Will the keyboard allow zooming of the map, even in the FMS view? Currently there is no way of zooming the map in that view (other than pinch/zoom). IOW, is it just sending keystrokes and relying on the page to be able accept it, or is it directly accessing a ZOOM facility in the API?
2) So, still no advance list of outside developers that are working with you, in terms of wifi back and forth? * Orest |

1. Yes, our custom keyboard will have dedicated zoom keys for any page with a map (FMS with preview included). 2. Nothing to report yet, however, this helps us pave the way for future possibilities. -Simpson

I know you have been focused on the 540 and 440 products but about when will the APX322 be ready? And what suggested price? |

The AXP322 should be available sometime on May 2015. Don't forget that its functionality will be contingent on Rev. 10.1, so it's a two piece puzzle. Suggested list pricing is $5,450. -Simpson

Just curious - why is the AXP322 more expensive than the AXP340? I would expect that eliminating the front panel display and buttons would reduce the cost more than adding a serial port would increase it.

I'm not entirely sure on why, I do know that it's competitively priced with other remote mount transponders on the market. You typically see remote mounts costing more than their panel mount counter parts.

Simpson,
Thanks for the updates. I have a Cirrus with a EX5000c, G430W and Aspen. If possible I would really like the weather and traffic to display on the 5000 and while I like the 440 it would be nice to do this without the cost of that as an additional upgrade. There appear to be several options: 1. AXP340 with MLB100. But we are waiting on the STC for the 340 which may be out soon. My understanding is that it will be compatible with the 430W. IIRC I can display that data on the 5000 after the software update is issued for that unit (sometime in 2015?). 2. MLX200 will provide with in and out. However, I'm not sure that it will be compatible with the 430W. Looks like only Avidyne equipment. Could you please verify? Are there any STC issues like you are experiencing with the 340? If it works with the 430W it appears to be the most economical of the 3 choices. 3. If 2 won't work then maybe the MLX210 which has it's own GPS. Obviously more costly than the 200. I believe both the 200 and 210 will display on the 5000 once the software upgrade is out. Do I have this correct? Thanks. Brady

1. The STC for the 430W/530W's, IFD540 and R9 is complete for the AXP340. You can display weather and traffic from the MLB100 to the EX5000. The software should be complete towards the end of the summer. 2. When you say compatible with the 430W, do you mean as a position source for the MLX200? I believe that will be included. As far as STC's go, it's unclear. The FAA has taken a recent change in regards to their approval (see the IFD440 cert status). Both the MLX200/210 will display on the EX5000.
Any update on shipping of the keyboard?
I'll have an update once 10.1 is approved. 10.1 turns the bluetooth on.

Thanks Simpson, yes I was referring to the position source for the MLX200. So it looks like this unit would be the best for my situation (most economical while providing the ability to display the data to the EX5000). However, I'm still not clear on the STC. Reading through the 440 status thread it appears you are still waiting on the STC. I'm still not sure if you will need to go through this whole process of certification for the MLX200 before they start shipping and can be installed.

Yes, the MLX200 will need to go through the STC certification (any ADS-B solution would). Our goal is to have this completed by Q3. -Simpson

Simpson,
Can we get a new section for ADS-B products and move all of the MLB100, 200, 210 threads under that section? Additionally, can Avidyne put together a simple table that has feature across the top and product down the side to compare the product and available function? Lots of questions and confusion around what each product is capable of. For instance, I think the MLX200 has an option for internal GPS, but only displays on the IFD series units whereas the MLX210 only displays on the EX series displays. But elsewhere in the press brief it appears the MLX210 is the only unit available with the internal GPS. Plus the press brief doesn't really have paragraphs and is difficult to read.

I added the MLX series to this thread and am looking for any stray topics to put under this topic.
