I’d like to hook up my Garmin GTX 345 transponder to my Avidyne EX5000 MFD. Unfortunately, there is only one RS422 output on the 345, that currently feeds my FS210. It is configured for “CONNEXT” format; if I were to splice off this connection to an RS232 input port on the EX5000, would the labels for traffic or weather be received? Obviously “CONNEXT” is a Garmin thing, but should I expect the same labels to be in place that would be present in the “Legacy” format that the MFD expects?

Someone else may be more knowledgeable here but it would seem logical that different formats would have different data streams.
How those different data streams would interface with different receivers is the real question. My guess is it will not work. The connections and electrical requirements would be OK, just the format problem. This is a huge problem with the avionics industry. Garmin does what Garmin wants. Other do what others want and these then become incompatible.
