I just downloaded and installed the 10.2 version of the Windows/PC simulator.

The installation went well and the simulator seemed to run well. But one of the simulator control keys doesn't work properly.

On the old simulator you could press the keyboard "End" key to stop the motion of the simulated aircraft. The "Home" key would start things going again. All of the other functions of the IFD worked normally while the motion was stopped.

On the new simulator the End key still stops the motion. But, after a click or two, most of the keys on the face of the IFD freeze up. All the functionality of the unit is lost. If the AUX key happens to be flashing because of a message, it stops. Then, when you press the Home key, everything starts again, the IFD un-freezes itself, and messages flash again.

The old behavior of the End key was very useful because you could stop a simulation in place and experiment with the IFD while you looked something up in a manual or tried to figure out what to do next. The new behavior is a big step backwards.

On the 10.2 iPad simulator there's a FLY/STOP slider that does the same thing as the End/Home keys on the PC. The iPad works fine; you can stop the simulation at any time and retain full functionality of the IFD.

Have any of you experienced the same behavior on the PC simulator? Is it just happening to me or is a common problem?

Simpson - Is this a bug or a feature? Is the PC simulator supposed to work this way?

Thanks

Mike

I have had the same experience with the 540 version on the PC.  The 550 version seems to work ok.  I haven't played with the 440 version.

I've found that this behavior occurs for all three simulators. After pressing the End key you can get exactly one press out of each of the front panel buttons. Each button freezes after the first push.

Very strange. And a big pain. To me, anyway.

I can no longer get any of the PC simulators to work in a Windows XP virtual machine. They chew up a lot of cpu and never go beyond the SVS display, which shouldn't even be there for the 540/440 I would think. I don't get to the database confirmation screen.

Pressing the Page Down key several times will also freeze the PC simulator.
