Hi I am in the process of registering my IFD440 and in the myavidyne.com activation it talk about the activation of the Aeroplan extended warranty.
Upon filing the form I realized that is more like a contract with some "small print" clause. What the deal with that?

The Cliff Notes version of the Aeroplan Extended Warranty upon purchase. You, the owner, get an extended factory warranty in exchange for waiving your rights to bring Avidyne into a legal action, in case you or your family want to sue them for their navigator/FMS flying you into a mountain or other hard object. All of the rest of the discussions on this topic all boil down to the same thing eventually. Now putting on my flame retardant suit!!

There's more than that. Review it carefully with a lawyer before you sign it.

As far as I am concerned, the benefits of the extra two years of warranty coverage are worth more than the extremely low risk at least for the average private pilot flying less than 100 hours a year. I would hope that you would not have all your eggs in the same basket, ie, have a backup no matter what brand of navigator you are flying. Foreflight comes to mind.
