As others have said, flight plan and magenta line will transfer (one way). You will not see approach stuff depicted on the map but you will see the waypoints. It works very well.

We put a 4-pin connector in the panel below and left of the yoke.  The pins are +12, Data+, Data-, & Ground.  Put the mating connector on the Garmin harness/cable mentioned above and you've got an a/c powered 696 and automatic flight plan transfer to the 696.  We added a switch to disconnect the Data+ & Data- lines allowing quick separation for those few times we don't want the flight plan to transfer to the 696. easy.

Yes Garmin sells a harness to wire an RS232 from the GNS430/530 to the 696/796. The Avidyne units use the same wiring.

Easy to set up the IFD -> 696/796 flight plan transfer. It uses an RS232 link, and works very well.

Forkauto...which way and how is it accomplished? hardwire? bluetooth? wifi?

I have a 550 and a Garmin 696, I have flight plan transfer automatically. That is about it

I'm not familiar enough with a 796 to answer.  There are several others on the forum that have similar products, so hopefully they will chime in.

What if any info can be shared between the New IFD550 that i just installed and a 796 that i have in the plane already
