Some approaches, such as the ILS LOC only approach to RWY 4R at KEWR, have VDP and Missed Approach points defined by the ILS DME (IEZA in this case).  Is it possible with an IFD 540 and 440 to somehow display this DME?

It doesn't display the DME but you can still use the IFD to identify these points.  Notice that although DOOIN is 6.2 DME, if you add the distances in the profile, the IFD at DOOIN will display 5.2 miles to Rwy 4.  Likewise, when the IFD displays 1.6 you are at the VDP

There is a datablock for the NAV radio that has the GPS computed DME (legal substitute for DME).

Per the IFD PG, the Decoded VLOC IDENT datablock referenced above will not display FMS direct distance to decoded localizer stations; only FMS direct distance to decoded VOR stations.

It appears that using the Designated Waypoint datablock will display the info requested in this thread. For the example ILS OR LOC 04R at KEWR, input IEZA into the Designated Waypoint datablock and the datablock will show FMS direct distance to the IEZA localizer DME station.

I don’t know if this will work in every case; however, I spot checked this with a localizer DME station not co-located with its localizer antenna array (KORD ILS or LOC RWY 27L) in the IFD simulator. By the resulting FMS direct distances displayed, the IFD simulator identified the designated waypoint IIAC as the location of the IIAC DME station which is off the opposite end of the nearly 8000’ runway from the localizer antenna array.

Thanks dmtidler.  I had never wondered about that data block and it is the perfect answer to my question and will be handy for some other uses as well.
