I'm planning my install and wondered, since many of you have many hours behind these units now, would you go with a switched or unswitched input to the audio panel (meaning you can mute the 440/540 audio). I do occasionally fly low for photography and do currently have my Garmin 496 on a switched input to mute the "Train, Train, pull up".
(Try as I might, I've never seen the train) However I know you can ACK and turn off this alert on the 540. Thanks!

I hooked mine up as a switched input, and I have used that feature.
If you hook it up as an unswitched input, you can achieve essentially the same thing by going into the Audio page of the AUX tab on the IFD and turning the Alert Volume all the way down. I'm happy with the way I did it. David Bunin |

Thanks David, I'll hook it up to a switched input.

Mine is un switched and that has not been a problem Also it would keep you from having it off by mistake when perhaps you need it on to warn you of terrain. I have had it go off a couple times flying in Mountainous terrain but it was a good alert to pay attention. It has never gone off when landing.

As I recall (from flying on Saturday), FLTA goes inactive when you land. You even get an annunciation that FLTA is inactive. |

Yes, airports (in the database or user defined) have an automatic FLTA exclusion zone.
