I spent an entire day yesterday with my avionics guy trying to fix a problem that got introduced when we put 4.10 and 10.1.2 on. My Mode C altitude gets lost. Here's what happens. When the avionics start up, the encoder sends field altitude and it gets recorded. As soon as the TAS 605 connects to the 540, it seems to break the connection for altitude, and from that point on, the altitude stays at field altitude. I know because as soon as I contacted ATC after the update, they asked my altitude and then told me they were not getting a Mode C altitude from the AXP 322. I recycled the 322 via the breaker, and they saw the recycle but it did not restore the Mode C.
It's happened very flight since. Each time, they tell me to turn Mode C off, but it's a little unnerving because I have been waiting for them to tell me to get out of their airspace without Mode C. So we looked at it all day yesterday, including calls to Avidyne after hours support. It seems that when my avionics guy connected the Skytrax 100 with 4.10, the problem started. We ended up having to route the TAS traffic to my GMX200 instead of the 540, and routed the Skytrax data to the 540. Ugly but it works for now. I now have proper Mode C and am legal again, but we still don't have a proper fix and I don't have TAS traffic on the 540. Anyone else run into something like this?
