Is the plain KI 209 acceptable for use with the IFD 540? It is currently being driven by a 14v KX-155 (not 155A) with glideslope. It's shown in the list of interfaces, but an avionics shop questions whether it can actually be configured that way. Here's the direct quote: "I think you may need to install a different CDI with the IFD 540; I don’t think the KI 209 will meet the STC (it does not have a resolver output, and will only connect to the nav side of the IFD 540)." Thoughts? I'd prefer not to have to budget for a new indicator, since this project is pushing the limits of the budget already. |

The KI 209 won't do what you need. A KI 209A will and a used one is probably the least expensive choice.
Some people prefer other indicators but if you are used to a KI 209 the 209A will look and feel the same. If you are going to keep the KX 155 as a NAV 2 radio then you might want to keep your KI 209 as well. Otherwise you could sell it to help fund the project. We have a KI 209A connected to the IFD 540 and a KI 209 connected to a KX 155A (one of the original radios) in our Cessna 172. It is a fine combination. |
