Garmin has been busy adding in IFD features to their GTNs.
On one forum I visit, a criticism was being made of the Avidyne website, that it was misleading by misrepresenting the GTN feature set, and that the page should be boycotted. A bit specious a criticism I know, but perhaps it could be updated? * Orest

If I may ask, having only a passing familiarity with the 650/750, what exactly is misleading?

I flew a 520 equipped airplane last week and, for the life of me, couldn’t get it to sequence the approach fixes when the controller cut the corner on the approach. I’m glad it was VMC. I don’t have any problems going where I want with the IFD. Needless to say, I encouraged an upgrade.

Garmin has added multi-touch, a QWERTY keyboard and may have just added FLTA for non-TAWS units. These are relatively minor, but important changes -- it seems that Garmin has been reading that page too! But the entire page (and the site by inference) has engendered criticism by some as inaccurate, because of that. Now, in no sense does a GTN == IFD, Garmin would have to radically alter their UI and drill some buttons into their bezels, and then some, and that is very unlikely to happen. I would suggest that comparisons should be more orientated to these anchoring differences. * Orest Edited by oskrypuch - 27 Dec 2018 at 9:16pm |
