I realized today that I have not done a vor check on my Avidyne 440 since I received a replacement unit over a year ago after a warranty claim. I have exclusively used gps only for navigation without any errors since I got the unit. Today I did a vor check and discovered I have a 28 degree error in vor vloc mode. My vor head is an MD200-706 CDI. That is a ridiculously high error. Does anyone have an explanation for this, and how difficult is the fix? Just fyi, my #2 radio, a 45 year old kx170 was spot on when I checked it.

You have to go into the 440 configuration mode and calibrate the MD-200 to the 440. You set the OBS on the MD-200 to 150 degrees and then press “Calibrate to 150 degrees” on the 440 menu.

it sounds like the shop that did the swap did not follow the post installation checklist / checkout procedures. Not only do you want to “zero out” the VOR indicator as mentioned above, you want to rotate it and check it every 30 degrees. You may find a small error at some compass headings.
