My IFD540 says the FLTA is inhibited. I have no aural callouts. Oskrypuch suggested I post about an audio connection that I probably need. Can someone help me with this?

You need to provide some additional information. FLTA is inhibited in certain areas such as the exclusion areas around an airport. It will be inhibited if the GPS signal is lost. You need to have it turned on in the user settings.
Perhaps you can provide some additional information. |

That would seem to indicate a wiring problem. Do you get the 500' call-out (is independent of TA/FLTA setting)?

from the install manual..... If the unit being replaced was not a TAWS-enabled device, or if the TAWS Audio output signals were not already connected to the aircraft audio panel(s), then some additional wiring will be required from the IFD5XX/4XX tray to the aircraft audio panel(s) as identified in Section 6.11.1 in order to supply IFD5XX/4XX terrain alerting audio (FLTA functionality) and TOD chime to the headsets.

Last year I had a flight where I was getting repeated FLTA Unavailable warnings while cruising at high altitude (17,500 I think). It was mentioned that the fault was resolved in the new software, which I have not yet installed. Whatever caused it must have been spurious in the GPS, because I haven't seen it again. There was a thread about it here, somewhere.

If you replaced a Garmin 530, 99% of Garmin 530's did not have audio wired (unless they had TAWS, which maybe a few air carrier types did). Your shop needs to connect one wire to enable audio...

Technically it is three connections. There is a twisted wire pair (HI/LO) for audio inside a grounded shield. But visually, yes it looks like one wire. |
