Hello

this is no big deal, but I have noted my Jeppesen Mobile Flightdeck VFR will not start-up if the iPad is already connected to the WIFI generated by the panel mounted IFD 540. This was at first confusing.

Solutions:
  • On the ground: One has to basically start the Mobile Flightdeck VFR APP prior to hitting the avionics master, or at least prior to enabling WIFI for this flight.
  • In the air: Use settings or "flight mode" to turn the WIFi of the iPad off. You can now start Jeppesen Mobile Flightdeck VFR. Turn the WIFI back on.
  • If stuck in the start-up only force quit will work.

Funny enough, the Jeppesen Mobile Flightdeck (IFR) App is not affected.

At one point, it was stated by Avidyne that the Jeppesen app would work with the IFD540 data feed.

What happened, did they drop out?

I would suggest that the main purpose of Jepp's app, was to sell Jepp data. Nothing wrong with that. But, I think that Jepp has pretty much halted development of their apps, ceding the "Jepp" tablet space to FF, where they can sell their data directly.

Jepp plates being made available in FF (no extra charge for me with the Avi bundle) is the reason that I finally relented, and got a FF subscription. For FF it is a huge bonus, as they will pull in the transport and corporate crowd, that swears by Jepps.
