    Posted: 11 Mar 2025 at 7:04am
Recently after updating JDM to the latest version (not by choice--forced JDM update), I am having a recent issue uploading Nav database updates to the IFD 550/440. The error I now get when trying to update the Nav database on an IFD550/440 says "Error detected Copy Non RF Nav Database Files". IFDs are running the latest 10.2 version. I see another similar post, but that seems to be about RF data on a 10.3 device so a little different. I update Nav databases regularly, so the previous Nav data update was fine. Anyone else running this issue and if so what did you end up doing that fixed it? I'd rather not update to 10.3 if I can help it. Waiting on Avidyne support as well. Thanks!

There have been several reports of this issue and we're working to determine the root cause.  Generally speaking, reformatting the internal compact flash memory card will fix the situation.  But when you reformat, all of the nav data, obstacles, charts, terrain, configuration files, options, etc. get wiped out and have to be reloaded.  So we'd rather have you do that only as a last resort.  There's a chance that we can generate a new nav data DSF for you that will work temporarily.  You can coordinate that through tech support.

Thanks. We tried updating to 10.3.1.2, but unfortunately the error still persists. Haven’t heard back from tech support yet but hopefully they can email me a NavData file that works.

Hi Steve,

what should we do now - wait for a solution and not update the database (when possible). Or try an update and see what happens? IS there also a possible problem with circle 2503? ...or only a know issue with circle 2502?

Thx!

While there have been several reports of this bad behavior, there are countless others that have updated with new nav data successfully.  There is no problem with the data itself, so no need to call Jeppesen.

We are still looking for a root cause before we can develop a solution.  If it works for you to fly with expired data, that's certainly an interim solution.  But it's not something that Avidyne would encourage.  Also, it's not really a fair thing to ask of you because you've paid for the subscription - you ought to be able to use the data.

If you do find yourself in the situation where the unit has no nav data and will not accept an update, please call tech support right away for help.

This problem is definitely the hottest thing being worked here at Avidyne.  Just as soon as we find a solution, we'll be sure the publish that information far and wide.
