Imagine a sector entry to an IAF.

With the old 430, you would just hit OBS, when you get to the IAF turn onto your outbound heading, turn OBS knob to the inbound track, turn inbound and before the waypoint turn of OBS mode to resume normal sequencing.

This is not how the IFD works. How would one deal with this situation? Programming a hold just to fly a sector entry to an approach seems overkill.

So far my only solution is to go to the FMS page and re-activate the previous leg.

Thanks for any advice,
Bas.

I am not familiar with the term "sector entry".

Well, you could OBS the IAF, before you get there, and turn the knob to set an OUTBOUND course. Intercept that course outbound of the IAF, and it shouldn't cancel on you if flying outbound. Then, you can turn the OBS inbound as needed.

Or, just set the approach to vectors, fly a heading for the outbound, then turn to intercept.

But, doesn't the approach have a built-in procedure turn for you?
