I am going to KDLS and it has an LDA approach so I thought I’d run it in the trainer.  The simulation worked fine at first with the mode starting at GPS->VLOC.  At the FAF, the mode changed to GPS instead of VLOC.  I tried several times and this remained the behavior.  I then tried the ILS at KTKI and it did the same thing.  The options are set to auto switch and auto load.

Bug in the Trainer?

I don't believe it is a bug; the IFD Trainer does not appear to simulate any navaids. In order for VLOC to engage automatically, two of the six requirements are:
  • the Morse code decoded by the tuned nav radio matches the identifier of the approach navaid
  • the radio deviations are at most 50% of full scale for 5 consecutive seconds.
Without a simulated navaid, neither of these conditions can be met to allow the automatic transition to VLOC.

I guess that make sense but I was assuming/hoping that since this was a simulator that the app would assume the navaid was valid.  Not a big deal -- just have never actually done an LDA and don't want any surprises.
