In doing a little more research, I am still not sure the E5 is better than two G5s except if you need to drive a legacy autopilot. The E5 doesn't have an HSI (unless you upgrade to the Pro), limited air data (no wind speed/vectors), and no reversionary capability. I do prefer the way the E5 shows lateral and vertical deviation indicators on the PFD, though, and I don't care about the 2 vs 4 hour standby battery life-- if I have an electrical failure it had better not take me more than 2 hours to make a safe landing.
