I was browsing the IFD Flight Manual Supplement looking for help in determining the proper PBN codes for my installation, when I noticed this page.  Note the "Camera".  I knew that was a camera!!  No wonder Avidyne always wants to see your logs!  Voyeurs!! ðŸ˜‰

Nice catch!  Now what are they planning to do with it?

That where the allen wrench goes so you can remove or install the unit from the panel.

The tag refers to cam latch.  Maybe an autospell correct?

There are 3 holes, the one in the middle is the cam latch.  I think it's the one on the left, but one of the other two looks like it has some sort of reflective (optic?) piece in it.  Although the arrow is pointing at the middle one, it could be pointing at the group of holes similar to the line select keys label.  I'm not sure it's a camera, but it would be fun if it was another trick up their sleeve.

Yes, yes, it was an obvious typo.  The pic of the 440 says CAM LATCH.  I was just having some fun.

That being said, I still think that hole on the left looks very similar to the camera on my iPhone.  Just sayin...  ;)

I thought one light was for WiFi and the other Bluetooth since that's where their antennae are.

The antennas are under the Avidyne logo.

Hah, funny typo but since you brought it up.....

We had a camera in one of the holes at one point when we were trying to get gesture recognition to work but it was too hard to get right-enough so we pulled it.  The other was a microphone for audio control but of course the cockpit ambient noise made that too difficult to accurately filter so we pulled that too.

Which is where the lights are.

The WiFi/Bluetooth transceiver is under, as in "behind" the Avidyne logo. If you popped off the logo plate, you would see the WiFi/BT transceiver. (But don't try that at home since that would likely void your warranty...)

No way to work that through the intercom system by way of the audio panel?  That should take care of most of the noise problem.  In most cases these days, the pilot is already wearing a good microphone.

I seem to recall that there was a voice activated product on the market about ten years ago that employed a second PTT button on the yoke.

Gesture recognition?  In a plane?  In turbulence?  I bet that didn't work well.

IFD: "That finger is waving up and down randomly again.  But I think it's heading toward the Delete Active Flight Plan LSK.  Let's go with that..."

Thankfully I was flying in a Cessna 182 when the system interpreted my gesture as an ejection seat activation attempt. Then the system got pissed off when I gave it the finger.

At least you did it in the 182.  The Warthog does have an ejection seat.

We're making great progress with Deep Learning but I don't expect to see it in civilian piloted aircraft for some time.
