Now that the -A upgrade of the TAS6XX is out and installed in the field, there are questions, which have not been clarified, and others for which differing responses are coming from different tech reps.  Would be good to have the inhouse Avi gurus address these.

1.  Assuming that a given aircraft has both a TAS and a Skytrax 100, and both are functional, what is the output of the IFD5XX to a wifi via tablet?  I believe it is the Skytrax 100 TIS-B information.  Others believe it is a composite between TAS traffic from the TAS-A and TIS-B from the Skytrax 100.  I don't believe the units have the ability to composite two different sources.  What is the correct answer?

2.  For the TAS-A upgraded unit (no SkyTrax), what is the added functionality?  It is passive ADS-B reception of other aircraft in air?  Does it use 1090 ADS-R from ground if it is available?

3.  What is the correct AXP-340 setting for aircraft that have both TAS-A and Skytrac 100?  978? 1090? or both?  Seems to me that both would be the correct answer.

4.  If the TAS-A is getting active traffic, airborne ADS-B from other aircraft, and if it uses 1090 ADS-R, why (except for TSAA symboloby) would one want TIS-B from the Skytrax?  Nothing would be added, right?

I hope Avi can address these is a definitive way.

Thanks

1. If you're talking about the WiFi interface to the IFD100, then you should see the same information on the IFD that you're seeing on the IFD.  However, if you're talking about the WiFi interface to third party apps, then the only thing that's available is the Capstone protocol output from the SkyTrax100 (TAS-A doesn't output Capstone).

2. The TAS-A upgraded unit adds 1090ES ADS-B In (including 1090 directly from nearby aircraft, ADS-R and TIS-B from ground).  Active TAS data is merged with ADS-B In data.

3. There is no simple answer to this one - it depends upon what you want to see, how many IFDs you have, and how the TAS-A and SkyTrax100 are wired to those IFD(s).  I'd consult with tech support to help sort out your specific situation, but here's a synopsis of the combinations.

1090=Yes  UAT=No
The ground station is being told that you only have a 1090 receiver on board, so it will send the 1090 targets on the 1090 frequency, and use ADS-R to rebroadcast the 978 targets on the 1090 frequency (since it thinks that's all you have).

1090=No  UAT=Yes
The ground station is being told that you only have a 978 UAT receiver on board, so it will send the 978 targets on the 978 frequency, and use ADS-R to rebroadcast the 1090 targets on the 978 UAT frequency (since it thinks that's all you have).

1090=Yes  UAT=Yes
The ground station is being told that you have a dual band receiver on board, so it will send the 978 UAT targets on the 978 frequency, and the 1090 targets on the 1090 frequency.  It will not take into account the ADS-R because it's being told you have a dual band receiver.

4. You might want the SkyTrax100 TIS-B so that it can be output to a third party application over the WiFi (assuming the third party app decodes Capstone for display - ahem).  Also, even though TAS-A has TIS-B integrated, you might want SkyTrax100 TIS-B as a backup traffic sensor.

Steve - My config is:
. AXP340 Set = 978-In yes only.
. TAS605"A" on #1 540 WiFi = On  and dual Aspens
. Skytrax100 on #2 IFD540 - WiFi = Off

In flight around the Phoenix area, I noticed a combination/composite  UAT targets from the Skytrax100/#2 IFD and some of the 1090-In ADS-B (? air-to-air) projected onto my iPad FlyQ (Seattle Avionics) screen.

I believe even the true ADS-B targets on my #1 540 (WiFi On) and all of my UAT targets from my #2 IFD are displayed on iPad FlyQ, even though only WiFi #1 is on... both IFD's ADS-B/R targets must be ported via the On-WiFi (and cross-synched dual 540's) and software on iPad/FlyQ is displaying all in UAT format with Speed vectors, etc!!
All good.

Next flight, I may try re-setting AXP340 to 978-On and 1090-On to see if this means only Air-To-Air (no ADS-R) or the opposite, with ADS-R for both frequencies...

Are you thinking that you're seeing traffic from both systems on FlyQ?  I don't think that's true.
FlyQ is only displaying traffic from the SkyTrax100.  IFD-2 gets the SkyTrax100 stream, forwards it to IFD-1, then IFD-1 puts it out over WiFi.
