In general terms what is holding up the certification of  the APX322?
One thing I heard was waiting for the IFD540 software 10.1 to be released?

Correct, 10.1 software adds the functionality to the IFD540/440 to control the AXP322.

We will also amend our AXP340 ADS-B STC to add the AXP322.

A dealer can place the order now for one, but we don't have a definitive ship date yet.

Is this being done in conjunction with release 10.1 software?

It's currently being worked on. I don't have an exact timeline on the approval. Obviously, 10.1 is the main hurdle for controlling it.

Now that version 10.1 is approved what is the status for the APX322?

The software to support the AXP322 is in Rel 10.1.

AXP322 availability is delayed an unknown amount by an issue we discovered in the last few days with its environmental approval levels. We're still working through the "so what?" of that discovery.

Any more thoughts on the AXP322 yet? When I go in for the 540 and 440 install I'd like to be planning how these integrate, along with a TAS605 to -A update

Any update on the APX 322?

Any forward looking statements at all? I'm holding back on my 540/440 install until I get some direction for this

AXP322's are available and shipping. The AXP322 is currently approved and can be installed as a Mode S transponder. We are actively working on completing the AML STC required to enable compliant ADS-B OUT capability.

1. If the APX322 installed with the 540 can the ADSB-out be turned on at this time?

2. What is needed to implement the STC once it is available?

3. Will the STC be made available for purchasers of the APX322 before the STC is approved?

1. Not at this time. The ADS-B STC is a current project.
2. To "activate" the ADS-B portion, you will need to verify a configuration on the IFD.
3. I'm not sure why you would want the STC before it has been approved. It wouldn't have any value.

Sorry after it is approved?
Will there be any additional cost for the STC?

No additional cost to existing AXP322 customers once the STC is complete.

Any news on the STC?

I should be installing my 540 and 322 in November.

I think we'll miss your November date by a few months.   I think you should plan on a STC that allows for a fully ADS-B compliant AXP322 in early 2016 (Jan or Feb).

Grrr. EASA messing about again. Is the AXP322 likely to comply with ETSO C166b in the foreseeable future please?

Any update on the ETSO C166b outlook yet? http://www.avidyne.com/products/axp322/index.html is still showing FAA TSO C166b and ETSO C166a. Unfortunately it seems to be the case that getting an STC for EASA certified aircraft with only ETSO C166a equipment is impossible after the 2014 change to CS-ACSN

Finally going in for IFD540 APX 322 installation on Wednesday.  Any update on the STC for the ADSB out?

FAA has the project.   No commitment on when it will be serviced.  My guess is 8 weeks but that has a few assumptions that involve people doing their job so we'll see.

Just checked.  We have TIA and are waiting on FAA DAR to do their conformity inspection next week.

Not sure what that resolves to.   Another week?   Another 3?  Another 5?   Not knowable at this time.

Maybe I'm confused here, and I probably should have asked more questions before upgrading my panel...  Is the AXP322 that I just had installed not actually ADS-B Out capable?  Is it just operating as a Mode S transponder until further certification is done?

The AXP322 is ADS-B Out, and works just fine with the IFDs. I've had mine tested through the FAA email, and it came through with flying colors.

Don't know if the STC paperwork for the 322 has been released yet, but as I understand it the paperwork isn't actually required until 2020. Some shops will errantly refuse to activate the ADS-B OUT in the installed hardware until they see that STC.

Yes, Orest's post is correct.    As of 29 July 2016:

1.  The combination of the AXP322-IFD5XX/4XX products is a fully functional and capable ADS-B Out set.  If you fly that combo today, you will be a fully contributing and receiving player in the ADS-B space.
2.  To show compliance with the mandate on 1 January 2020, you will need to point to some STC or moral equivalent paperwork that shows a compliant installation.
3.  The STC paperwork from Avidyne for that combo is in the final FAA approval stages and should be available in the coming weeks.

But in summary, you are permitted to use the system now as a full ADS-B Out participant.
