I cannot get the 540 to enable the missed at the FAF.  The option "enable missed" does not appear under the #4 LSK, and when I get to the MAP, I get a yellow message "Manual Sequence Req'd."  However, the missed course line (magenta) and the subsequent barber-pole are there, but they just follow the aircraft around rather than being static relative to the ground.  I do have "enable missed" on in the settings panel.

This has been true since I got the unit about 2 years ago.

If somebody can let me know what I'm doing wrong, it will be appreciated.   I tried to upload a screen shot, but was not able to attach it.  I can send it to individuals if that would help.  My email is jbeasley@wisc.edu

Many thanks for any help others can give.

John

The IFD should sequence automatically into the missed approach procedure after you pass the missed approach point. What approach is this happening on? All of them, or just some of them?

The IFD may be waiting for you to reach a specified altitude before it begins the missed approach procedure. Does the miss procedure start with something like "Climb to xxxx feet and then......"? If you don't have a barometric altitude source (like an Aspen PFD hooked up to your IFD it won't know when you reach the altitude to start the turn, so you have to tell it.

Hope this helps.

Mike

Based on your description above, my best guess is that you have "Auto Enable Missed" On in the AUX User Options for the User you had active for that approach. This option automatically enables the missed approach at the FAF and is active user dependent. With Auto Enable Missed - On, you will not get an Enable Missed prompt inside the FAF at FMS FPL LSK 4 as the missed approach is automatically enabled; hence the barber pole past the MAP.

If correct, and you turn "Auto Enable Missed" Off for the active user, then you should get the Enable Missed prompt inside the FAF at FMS FPL LSK 4 as you were looking for in this thread.

The "Manual Sequence Req'd" occurs when the active FMS fix (on the missed in this case) requires a baro-corrected altitude input (think altimeter displayed altitude set for local altimeter setting) before it can automatically sequence to the next FMS fix. For instance, the initial missed approach instructions might state: "Climb to 3000' then turn direct XYZ and hold..."

Basically, if your airplane (like mine) does not have air data computer input to the IFD, the IFD does not know when that baro-corrected altitude condition is met and therefore cannot automatically sequence to the next FMS fix on the active flight plan (missed approach). IFD determined GPS altitude and encoder supplied pressure altitude are not correct for determining this altitude.

"Manual Sequence Req'd" means that the IFD is waiting for you to manually sequence to the next leg of the active FMS route (Activate Leg on FMS FPL page LSK 2 with appropriate FMS FPL fix selected) at the appropriate time since the IFD cannot automatically do so.

Just my guess.
