On the MAP view, no problem, both knobs will scale discretely, and the two finger touch is available for approximate scaling.
BUT, on the FMS page, which I tend to fly during departure and arrival, you only have the two finger scaling. Both knobs are assigned to coarse and fine cursor movements. Further, I tend to actively change the scale during this time. I like to have my map scaling in discrete steps, and always want a specific scale (6nm) during the final approach phase. That means, from the FMS page, I have to flick to the MAP page (which often is set to CHART), change to the MAP tab, change the scale, change the tab back to CHART, and then move back to FMS. Awkward. Any chance on the FMS view we could get one of the knobs to run the scale up and down, sacrificing the coarse cursor perhaps? Maybe a user setting? Or perhaps some other creative way to get discrete scaling in the FMS page. * Orest Edited by oskrypuch - 30 Dec 2014 at 5:57pm |

I've been thinking the same thing. The problem is that course/fine selection is consistent throughout the unit so it would be counterintuitive in my mind to give that up. I'd suggest a push/turn combo of the knob, just like how you reset a heading indicator to the compass. I haven't found that used anywhere in the system and it could be used a neat feature to recapture the few things that touch can't help with. push/turn the bottom right knob can scroll through standby frequencies. Not sure you can do anything for panning...

Was out again today, yes, I'd really like to be able to somehow directly scale the FMS "map" display.

I'll add it to the candidate database but the internal guts to do that are significant so it definitely won't be part of Rel 10.1 in the spring time.

I'm not sure it matters since I think you got the idea, but I meant the bottom-left button for scrolling the standby frequencies and the bottom-right for zooming the map on the FMS page. I would suggest trying to recapture as many of the touch only features as possible.
For fun, you COULD pan by pushing and turning both knobs similar to a etch-a-sketch, but I wouldn't find this useful. Perhaps only beneficial if you could get to a point where you could market that there were no touch only capabilities at all.
