Previously owned a Saratoga with a Entegra EXP-5000 PFD – (Primary Flight Display) 
 FlightMax EX-5000 MFD – (Multi Function Display) . It has GNS 430W when I bought the plane, I install IFD 440 and they worked great. 
I'm transitioning to a Meridian with Garmin G500 PFD/MFD with GNS 530W and was thinking of Upgrading to IFD550's
My concern is the Integration between competing companies equipment.Has anyone done a retro fit?  If so has there been any issues between the two pieces of equipment. I love the Avidyne products and would prefer not to buy  the GTN750's.

I have a buddy with an EX5000 Meridian and same autopilot who upgraded to IFD440s.  No issues with compatibility.

I believe that 10.2.0.0 software release introduced a minor bug with the G500 that is a communication error with the G500 at startup.  I don't remember the exact details other than it has been identified and resolved for the future 10.2.1.0 release.

My Jetprop has a G500, a IFD 540 and a IFD 440. There have been some issues but they have been resolved with the current software release.

I definitely recommend the IFDs over the Garmins.
