Does the IFD440 have the capability to show the wind direction and speed info that it gets from my Shadin Digidata? I get the fuel info no problem. My old GNS430 would show the wind direction and speed in the map view so I am wondering if the IFD440 will do the same? Any know?

There is a wind vector datablock that should show the information.

Steve, thanks for the info. I just checked the IFD440 manual and found it.

Steve,
I have a JPI830 outputting the shadin data and 2 G5s for airdata, but the wind vector will not populate with data.  Am I missing a key element to actually make this work?

Most likely a configuration issue.  It depends on what equipment is wired to which port and the setting you have for the port.  Call (or have your shop call) tech support and they can walk you through it.

Thanks & will do.  My unit is back to Florida for an exchange.
I enjoyed your input on the webinar yesterday evening!

I'm interested in hearing the results of your discussion with tech support, so please post them here.

Per the Avidyne manual, wind vector on the IFD needs TAS and Heading input (ref: PG p5-33 Wind Vector Data Block content). This won't come from the JPI 830, so it needs to come from the G5. I suspect that you are missing TAS. For the G5 to provide this, it needs OAT which requires a GAD13.

JPI has OAT as an option, but a) does not forward it on the RS232 output AFAIK and b) it wouldn't be used by the IFD to calculate TAS even if received. I'm not aware that the JPI 830 outputs TAS, so would be interested about any info to the contrary.
