What is the setting that gets rid of this notification on startup?

Your RS232 configuration has at least one port set to "Icarus Alt".  What's connected to the IFD on that port?  If there's nothing on that port, that's the problem.  The solution is to set that port to "Off".  If there is something connected to that port, then ensure that it truly is supposed to be communicating using the Icarus Alt protocol.  If not, that's the problem.  The solution is to select the proper protocol for whatever is connected.  If something is connected to that port and it is supposed to communicate using the Icarus Alt protocol, then it's likely that the connected device has failed or is configured incorrectly.
